Enjoy a taste of sailing, windsurfing and a friendly club on the Welsh Harp

Sunday 14th May 2017 from 1:30 till 6 pm

Push the Boat Out  - what is it?

It's a national celebration of all the sailing and watersports clubs up and down the country organised in May.   It's our opportunity to show everyone what is going on at a stretch of water near YOU and your opportunity to get afloat and enjoy the pleasure of dinghy sailing and windsurfing in our beautiful surroundings.  For a taste of what it's like see this great video from Push the Boat Out 2016.

When is it happening?

On the Welsh Harp Reservoir, on Sunday May 14th, from 1.30 to 6pm.

What's on offer?

Members of our clubs will display all the different sorts of dinghies and windsurfing rigs that are used on the Welsh Harp and invite friends, family and members of the public to go out on the water in them.   We have boats are suitable for disabled and accessible sailing, and for children, and we are promised a visit from the pretty three-masted King Alfred sailing boat, looking a bit like an old fashioned sailing ship.

Can anyone try sailing and windsurfing?  Do I need to bring anything?

Yes!  Most of our boats are easy and comfortable for anyone to sail in.  You are almost sure to get your wet feet, so wear a pair of old trainers or soft  shoes and a wuind and waterproof top.     And, bring a towel and a change of clothes just in case you get wet.    We have buoyancy aids for you to borrow and some wetsuits for windsurfing. . Children must be accompanied by a parent at all times.     We aim to get evryone on the water, weather permitting

Do I have to go out on the water?

No, it;s up to you - whatever is most comfortable.  The Welsh Harp is very beautiful, so you might prefer just to relax with a drink and enjoy the atmosphere. There will be a BBQ and home-made cakes too. There is no entry charge.

Do I have to book?

No - just turn up, the earlier the better.  Sessions on the water will be first come first served and last 20-30 mins depending on numbers

What about the weather?

We can sail comfortably in winds up to about 12-14.  If it is very wet and windy sailing and windsurfing tasters may not be possible.  Follow the clubs Facebook pages for the latest news
