Though 2016 was a year of shocks and surprises it was a great one for our club, with a host of events afloat and ashore. Membership was up by 10% and new members by a healthy 20%, thanks to everyone's combined efforts - training, racing, organising, socialising and just getting involved.
The club hosted three GP14 open meetings, with the Masters' weekend involving over 100 people; a Friends & Family day with over 70 guests. Windsurfing racing started, as well as regular racing, those all important Thursday evenings and Plain Sailing. On the technology front, there are now lively WhatsApp groups for windsurfing, dinghy sailing and Plain Sailing and a fantastic weather station page on the website. Drones got in on the act too!
Thanks to members’ culinary skills we enjoyed fantastic food at Opens, Tuesdays, Thursdays along with more ambitious social events such as Burns Night, Quiz Night, Salsa Cha Cha Cha and the Masters Weekend Ceilidh! Rounding off the year, over 150 members, family and friends enjoyed the Bonfire Party and we had a packed clubhouse for the traditional evening of carols, mulled wine and tasty nibbles.
There's plenty in store for 2017 and we hope more members will get involved in helping run and develop the club. Some dates for your diary:
