Breezy, Bright and Social

A busy January at the club despite a chilly start to the year!   February is looking distinctly breezy, so smiles all round for sailors and windsurfers as we're already well into the Winter Series -25 GPs and Lasers on the water last weekend. There's lots of news this month - please read on.

London Boat Show

A fantastic effort by our 22 member volunteers over the 10 days of the show, featuring Sailability and the Hansa dinghies we share with Phoenix Outdoor Centre. 80 people visited our stand, most of them interested in Sailability and general dinghy sailing at the club

Burns Night

A late night for many of our members’ children and their friends, who had a great time dancing at the club’s traditional Burns Night celebrations. Despite Helen Allen being stuck in the wilds with a broken down camper van (and Andy's kilt!) Steve made up for it though looking impeccable in his kilt and sporran as he piped in the Haggis as if to the manner born (in the Midlands?) We’ll need a bigger dance floor if the event goes on being such a success.

GP14 Fleet

The big news is our fantastic entry of 12 boats for the UK Nationals at Looe Sailing Club in August, the most of any club so far. All the news and chat is on the Dinghy Sailing Whatsapp Group - now up to 51 members.  A brand new club GP14 is on the way from Winder boats, hopefully in time for the start of training.  Some of our older GPs are being sold - please contact Tony Barton if interested in buying one.

Laser Fleet

A big thank you to Mike Smith for volunteering to be Laser Fleet Captain. Steve Cooper writes: As the fleet identity develops both on and of the water there will be much to do, from boat maintenance to organising the open meeting, and staying in front of the GPs, please give Mike your support in this new role.

On the water Roger and Alain have been organising Laser training: Downwind and Sailing in Strong Winds - Start the year by training to spend more time out of the water! Details of the Thames Valley Laser Circuit will be on the web soon - first dates are March 16 (Haversham SC) and April 15 (Littleton SC).

After a period of cold and windless weather it seems that things have warmed up a little this week with a bit more wind than of late, so it may well be worth getting your winter wetsuit out and coming down for a windsurf .the kit is still ready to go so if you are checked out do come down. Plans are in progress to race on a regular basis this year so do look out for Whatsapp messages or emails. We also plan to run some early season training sessions to kick start your year - dates available soon.

It's membership renewal time! Subs are due by 31st April and there's a £10 saving if you pay before then.    Details of Subs here  and visit Webcollect to renew your membership online.  Any questions, please contact Caro Mitchell
